The baroque carving of the magnificent coffered ceiling of our restaurant is said to have cost a thousand guilders more than 340 years ago and was a magnet for visitors to the region. For our guests, it is still the parlor of the house today - the cozy, atmospheric and historic ambience with tiled stove and wood paneling invites you to linger longer. The Rehmsche Haus was a special kind of attraction in the small town of Aue, which had 93 houses in 1697, in which a total of 229 adults lived. There was a parlor with rich baroque carvings on the upper floor of the building. Rehm is said to have paid 1000 guilders to the artist called from Nuremberg - his name is not known - and his craftsmen, which is why the room was henceforth known as the "Tausendgüldenstube". In 1848, a landscape artist expressly pointed out that foreigners should not forget to take a look at this rarity. The following is reported about the design of the "Tausendgüldenstube" in the town's historical literature:
The room, in which a spacious bay window formed the corner, was 10 meters long and 8 meters deep. It was completely clad in darkened old walnut wood. The walls were divided into individual bays by flat, richly carved pillars. There were also pilasters on the doors and windows, which were decorated with bearded lansquenets' heads and figures of angels. The door panels were decorated with carvings. The ceiling was a coffered ceiling. At the intersection of each square was a rosette-shaped knob and in the middle of the panels was a raised carved angel's head. The ceiling paneling was interlaced at the sides. The floor was also paneled. There was a tiled stove in the room. Behind it, a seated bagpiper was carved into the wall surface and stood out vividly. According to the custom of the time, there was a washing device on one side with the inscription: Wash yourselves! Cleanse yourselves! Above the washing device was an angel's head.
The Tausendgüldenstube was occasionally used for meetings of the mining authority, which sometimes came over from Schneeberg to Aue to deal with mining matters.
In 1680, the deputies of the towns in the Ore Mountains met here. The Saxon sovereign is also said to have stayed here when he was hunting in the Ore Mountains.
